Ifuh Itah, the yam harvest festival of the people of Fringyeng in Upper Guneku, was held on Tuesday 16 December 2025. It is an old tradition that had been abandoned for years and was revived in 2023, and it has grown with every edition since.
The announcement, published five days earlier, called on culture lovers to come to Fringyeng for what it described as the unique event in the Meta clan.
The 2025 edition
- An agricultural show — the main innovation of this edition — with farming tools awarded as prizes to exhibitors.
- A horse display by the Mbororo community, presented as sustaining the spirit of living together between the Bantu and Mbororo populations of the village.
- Traditional dance, including the Kwem of Guneku.
- Animation by Sister Genevieve Ijang.
- A guest artist — the first time an outside artist has performed at the festival.
- Representatives of the Fons of Zang Tabi, Chup and Guneku.
Why it is kept
The reason given by the festival’s own chroniclers is a plain one: that those who come after should have something by which to remember one of the last generations to have mastered the tradition of their forefathers.
A note on the name
Every source examined spells the festival Ifuh Itah, with no variant. If the Palace prefers a Meta orthography with diacritics, as with Mɨchi Ǝbeŋ, that correction can follow.
