Solar-powered library with computers, photocopier, printer and projector. Runs long and short computer training and holiday classes for pupils and students, and serves as the registration point for the scholarship programme. Sango Della was recorded as in charge of the Palace library in 2021.

Annual scholarship of over 1,000,000 FCFA for outstanding pupils in Mbengwi Central, hosted at the Palace. 200 pupils sat the 2025 examination.

About Guneku
A village of the Meta clan, in the hills of Momo Division
Guneku lies in the MEDIG zone — Central Meta — of Mbengwi Subdivision, and is the largest village of the Meta clan by area. It is made up of twenty-seven quarters. The eighth day of the week, Ngon, is the market day held in Guneku. The people speak the MENEMO dialect, and Musongong is the dance of Guneku.
Its sons and daughters are organised on three continents through GUDECA, the Guneku Development and Cultural Association.

Ngon, the market day
Guneku keeps an eight-day market cycle. The eighth day, Ngon, is the market day held in Guneku. The other days fall in the surrounding quarters — Tan in Ngamunghe, Mbon in Mbengeghang, Eje'e in Ngamunam, and Kwe in Fringyeng. Ngong, one of the twenty-seven quarters, has a market of its own: a 2016 GUDECA proposal suggested using the existing Ngong market as a daily market to ease the sale of farm produce.

The River Batmuki runs through the village from upper Guneku and joins the Mezam. Young people from Guneku and neighbouring villages take sand from it. Separately, the stream at Ngong quarter overflowed in June 2026 and a village rescue team saved a child — an incident that raised a harder question about the village water supply.

The cash crops include oil palm, raffia palm, coffee, maize and groundnuts, with plantains and cocoyam coming mainly from upper Guneku. Guneku has the highest grazing surface area in Meta; cattle are reared by the Mbororo, and by many natives too.

Two peoples, one village
The Bantu and the Mbororo live together in Guneku. The people speak MENEMO — a Meta dialect that some call “Meta”, which the village record notes is not correct. Musongong is the dance of the Guneku people.

Wood carving, bag and basket weaving and other domestic crafts are practised in Guneku.

A palace surrounded by churches
The Presbyterian church stands right in the Palace, and the village record observes that the Palace of Guneku is surrounded by churches. The record puts it two ways in the same passage — that there are as many churches as there are quarters, and that a survey counted nineteen houses of worship: twelve Presbyterian, two Catholic, and one each of Full Gospel, Good Shepherd, Apostolic, Mount Zion and Kingship Ministry. Both are recorded here rather than one being chosen.

Discover Guneku
Caves, mountains and waterfalls
The village record lists the Palace, caves, mountains and waterfalls among Guneku's touristic sites, alongside hills and valleys, rivers and springs. Because of the undulating landscape there are many caves, which in years past served as hiding places during the colonial wars.
Two festivals
Mɨchi ƌbeŋ is the Guneku festival of return, revived in 2023 after a six-year break. Ifuh Itah, the yam harvest festival of Fringyeng, was abandoned for years and revived in the same year. Both are held annually.

Guneku lies in Mbengwi Subdivision, Momo Division, in the North West Region of Cameroon, and is reachable by road from Mbengwi and from Bamenda. It shares boundaries with Mbemi, Nyen, Tugi, Zang-Tembeng, Oshie, Mundum and Bafut.
