THE BODIES OF GUNEKU

An annual scholarship programme founded by Prof. Dr. Roland Teboh Forbang, a son of Guneku and Associate Professor and Medical Director at Hackensack Meridian Health Network in New Jersey. The programme awards over 1,000,000 FCFA to outstanding pupils in Mbengwi Central and is hosted at the Guneku Fon’s Palace.

An association of Meta Fons headquartered in the Guneku Palace. It was founded in 2003 as Fons Against AIDS, with HRH Fon Fomuki Patrick Nji of Guneku as its founding president, and was renamed in 2021 because the original name covered only HIV and AIDS. Its mandate now runs to pandemics, the education and vocational training of children and people in need, poverty and hunger, community sensitisation, care and support, the development of community libraries and training, income-generating activity, social cohesion, and support to displaced people and returnees.

A media and cultural production company founded by a son of Guneku, working to raise the image and reputation of the village and the wider Meta clan through media and affordable service at home. It is described as one of the first legally registered media companies in Momo Division, and produces live event coverage in the village.

Community-owned credit union serving Guneku indigenes worldwide. Provides savings accounts, loans, and solidarity fund shares.

A medical facility carrying its own Guneku Medical Center letterhead, documented as existing on 25 March 2026. The document describes a fully equipped laboratory and a surgical theatre.

Ifuh Itah is the harvest festival of the people of Fringyeng, in Upper Guneku. It is an old tradition that had been abandoned for years and was revived in 2023. It is held in December, and it has grown with every edition since the revival.

A medical school based in Guneku. HRH Dr. Fomuki, Fon of Guneku, was honoured for his achievements in medical education at the MEFU–MECUDA joint meeting of August 2026, with MEDPHISATG named as the school based in Guneku.

Mɨchi Əbeŋ is the Guneku festival of return — a day given to ancient arts and craft, traditional delicacies, the mother tongue and traditional dress. It was revived after a hiatus of six years caused by the armed conflict in the region, and it carries the Mukonge and Kwem dance group competitions.

A clinic in the Njinebai quarter of Guneku. It closed for months during the crisis years and reopened to the public in late 2020 with the support of the Fon. The village record separately announced the launch of an eye unit at Open Door in 2021.

The ongoing restoration and cultural preservation of the Guneku Palace, recognised by the Ministry of Arts and Culture. The Palace is also recorded in the village archive as a touristic site.

Three Integrated Health Centres serve the outlying quarters of Guneku. The Palace and GUDECA assessed all three, and the assessment was filmed as a documentary series.
