On the evening of 5 June 2026 a disturbing incident unfolded at the stream in Ngong. Villagers had gone to wash clothes when the river overflowed.

A village rescue team reached the scene and a child was brought out safely. The response was widely praised in the community.

The question it raised

The relief was immediate, but so was a harder question. Members pointed out that parts of Guneku had been without water for about two months, which is why people were at the river in the first place.

The village water supply is recorded as an open issue. It is published here as it was raised in the community, not resolved.
