In the first week of October 2026, the people of Fun Quarter in Guneku took what Mbengwi Info Newsline called a bold traditional step to secure their land. The Quarter Head of Fun, named in the report as Mr Nji Calvin, led the men of the quarter in traditional rites intended to protect the village and chase away evil-doers.

Why now

The rites came as much of Meta faces a rise in theft, burglary and violent crime. The report links the decision to recent incidents in Guneku — among them the recent arrest in Guneku of a group of young men accused of going around stealing and raping, and a break-in at a house close to “PC Fun”, where a window was broken and property carried away. The Palace's questioning of suspects on 2 October, after an attack on a family, is recorded separately: After an attack on a family, Guneku turns to its Palace.

Worried by the insecurity, the traditional authorities of Fun Quarter chose, in the report's words, to go back to the roots, invoking the powers of the land against those who steal, kill and rape. A source in Guneku told the newsline that the rites are a warning that the land will no longer tolerate strangers or sons of the soil who have chosen crime as a way of life.

The newsline notes that other villages in Meta have recently taken similar steps to protect their communities.

On the date

The report gives the date as “Monday 6th October 2026”. The 6th was a Tuesday, so the rites took place on either Monday 5 or Tuesday 6 October; which of the two is not established.
