At an enlarged meeting of the MEDA home branch in the Mbengwi palace hall on Saturday 22 October 2022, it emerged that a Mukonge dance group had been newly formed in Mbengwi village to take part in its first ever competition.
That competition was announced as holding in the Palace of Guneku, organised by HRH Dr. Fomuki W. Ticha. It was announced for January 2023; it was in fact held on 15 April 2023, as part of the maiden edition of Mɨchi Ǝbeŋ.
The groups named at that stage were Sang, Barakwe, Kai, Mbemi, Bome and Bossa, alongside Mbengwi. The six that finally competed were Barakwe, Sang, Mbemi, Kai, Bome and Mbengwi.
The meeting was also notable as one of the first Meta association gatherings to return home after the crisis years.
