This is a heavy and demanding task that has been bestowed on me, alone I cannot handle it. As you all know, this is a new era with many challenges ahead but with you by my side we will surely win the battle against those constantly growing malpractices that prevail in the village today namely theft, laziness, and Grambling especially among the youth. We have to put our heads together to fight against food shortage, resolve farmer-grazer conflicts amicably through dialogue and negotiation. Together we can make Guneku great again, yes we can. The slogan of my stewardship is "Guneku for a brighter and happier tomorrow" and to make this dream come true, we will focus on the following sectors: Development, education, agriculture and health.
Looking at development, GUDECA Annual General Meetings will be decentralized and rotational within the 3 zones that make up Guneku : Upper, Lower and Central Guneku. Each zone will be considered during the planning and implementation of development projects.
Zonal projects will be sent to GUDECA for analysis and selection. We will come out with strategies to banish theft, gambling and laziness in the village. The Guneku village council will be revamped to have female and youth representation and given more decision-making powers. Annual Development levy will be revised and GUDECA branch presidents will be in charge of collecting and sending the funds to the Guneku multi-purpose project committee within a defined time-frame. Together we will encourage all Guneku elements to come home so that we construct the village the way we will want it to be now and tomorrow.
In the education sector, GUDECA will continue to sponsor part time teachers and encourage excellence in both primary and secondary schools through the award of prizes to good and meritorious students. GUDECA will also provide incentives to assiduous and duty conscious staff both at the primary and secondary school levels.
Focusing on agriculture, we will step up the fight against straying animals in the village, promote gardening, and encourage the use of organic or natural manure. A daily market will be opened at Windig to ease the sales of farm produce. Group farms will be encouraged and motivated with farm tools, pesticides and improved grains. A competition for the best farm will be institutionalized and GUDECA will set aside prizes for the best farm. The agric show initiative will be intensified and publicized beyond the village setting and in local media.
In the health sector, we will focus on environmental hygiene and sanitation, and the provision of clean potable pipe-borne water especially in the central zone. New water catchment areas will be searched and added to the existing ones, the misuse of water will be minimized. GUDECA will revamp the water management committee, water billing will be revised. Each household will be encouraged to have and use a latrine. Set aside a day each week for compound clean up. Each household will clean its surroundings. GUDECA will monitor and supervise this activity.
Dear Guneku elements; for the next 5 years our main focus will be on;
- The multi-purpose project. The project management committee has been put in place. An account will be created to that effect and made known to all of us. Everyone is encouraged to deposit their contributions directly into the account or send it through their respective GUDECA branch president. Technicians are working on the blueprint of the project to come out with the estimate. This project will produce short and long term effects to the Meta community in general and to Guneku village in particular.
- Maintenance of major roads. Community work will be organized regularly to fill up potholes, redirect surface water or fill up broken parts of a road. Youth are encouraged to organize themselves to help in this area.
